OCEAN
LEARNING HUB
SEYCHELLES
After the project Swim for the Ocean - Seychelles, the Ocean Learning Hub is taking shape on the main island of Mahé - a new place for encounter, education, and responsibility directly by the ocean. Together with our local partner organization The Voice of the Ocean, we are developing this place step by step on-site. During our most recent visits to the Seychelles, we documented initial progress and prepared the next stages of development.
The Hub is located opposite the island’s largest school and directly adjacent to a protected harbor area - a unique setting where education and the ocean meet directly. This creates a space that gives children, young people, and school classes direct access to the sea and connects learning with real-life experience.

The Ocean Learning Hub is intended to be a place where young people not only learn about the ocean theoretically, but also experience, understand and learn to protect it.
In the next phase, we are developing initial educational formats on-site for school classes, workshops, project days, and excursions in the coastal and marine environment. These programs are being created in close collaboration with local partners and are continuously adapted step by step to the conditions on location.
In the long term, the site is also intended to provide access to a dedicated boat, enabling educational and research trips within the maritime environment.
The approach follows the mission of theBlueHeart: to connect people - especially the next generation - with the ocean through direct experience, fostering understanding and responsibility for the sea. At its core are education, protection, and a lived relationship with the ocean.
IT'S TAKING SHAPE

The building is currently being renovated by our local partners on-site. During our visit in March, we returned to the Seychelles, documented the progress, carried out site measurements, refined the planning, and coordinated the next steps with local authorities. The project is therefore visibly taking shape.
To make the Ocean Learning Hub fully operational in the long term, further investment in infrastructure, equipment, and educational facilities is required. The estimated costs for renovation and development range between €50,000 and €100,000.
This project is creating a lasting anchor point for marine conservation, education, and international collaboration - directly where young people interact with the ocean in their daily lives.
